Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday directed the officials to take steps to supply uninterrupted seven-hour quality power to the farmers. During a teleconference with Energy Minister Kala Venkata Rao and officials, the Chief Minister said agriculture sector should be given equal importance on par with industrial sector and directed the power utilities to supply seven-hour quality power to farmers.

“The government will give equal priority for both rural and urban areas and agriculture and industries. This enhances the performance of economy and increases employment generation,” Naidu said.

To meet the demand of 186 MU power supply for coming rabi in 2018 against 176 MU demand in April 2017, Naidu directed the officials to prepare action plan to meet future power demand.

“The ground water levels increased in all regions in the State. This may result in demand for electricity for drawing water in dry lands in rabi season. Be prepared for that,” he said.

Naidu also said several multi-national companies have evinced interest in investing in AP because of 24x7power supply achieved by the State. The Chief Minister suggested that the thermal generation through latest super critical boiler technology in APGenco, establishment of 400kv network in all districts through APTransco, enhancing energy efficiency and smart grid through Deen Dayal Grameen Vidyut Yojana Scheme should be expedited to provide quality and reliable power supply at affordable charges.

Energy Minister Kala Venkata Rao mentioned about expediting action plan to implement the high voltage distribution system on agricultural service connections. “The plan is to ensure quality power supply to farming sector and reduction in transmission and distribution losses,” he said.

He also said Discoms completed the implementation of HVDS for 8.97 lakh agricultural services at the cost of Rs 3,626 crore under energy efficiency programme benefiting the farming community.

Chief Managing Director of APTransco K Vijayanand said the Transco has earned Rs. 85.44 crore net profit after tax for the year 2015-16. Chief Secretary to Chief Minister G Sai Prasad, Principal Secretary Satish Chandra, Special Secretary Ajay Jain and Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of APSeedco A Chandrasekhar Reddy participated.

According to sources, Naidu is likely to conduct a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review general performance of power sector, rural electrification issues, energy savings, smart grids, electric vehicles, digital payments and the situation of infrastructure creation.
