Vijayawada: Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said the government would complete bridges on Eluru, Ryves and Bandar canals on the outskirts of Vijayawada city and villages.

Replying to the questions raised by MLAs Vallabhaneni Vamsi and Bode Prasad at the State Assembly on Monday, the Minister said the government had stopped bridge construction works in view of Inland Waterways Management Project. But now the bridge works at Ramavarappadu village would be taken up from December, the Minister said.

Earlier, Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan asked the government to complete bridges at Ramavarapupadu on Ryves canal and a bridge on Budameru at Lankapalli. He said the people of Ramavarappadu deposited Rs 25 lakh as public grant. The villagers have been facing severe challenges due to the delay in bridge construction.

Similarly, Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad asked the government to reconstruct bridge at Yanamalakuduru village. He pointed out that other bridges on Eluru, Ryves and Bandar canals were in dilapidated condition.

He also pointed out that hundreds of vehicles including RTC buses move through the bridges regularly. Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao assured the legislators that the government would construct the bridges soon. The works were stopped midway at Ramavarapupadu Bridge following the suggestions of Inland Waterways Department.
