Eluru: A just-born female infant died due to lack of oxygen supply in an ambulance on Monday afternoon. According to information, Inapudi Sowjanya of Settivarigudem in Chintalapudi mandal was admitted to Eluru Government Hospital’s mother and child wing for her first delivery.

Her husband Satish Kumar brought her to the hospital for delivery as labour pains started on Sunday evening. Sowjanya delivered a girl in the hospital ward. However, as the infant found to have drunk amniotic fluid in womb, the its condition became serious.

On the suggestion of on-duty doctor, the infant was being taken to Vijayawada in a government hospital ambulance when the oxygen in ambulance exhausted when the vehicle reached Hanuman Junction. After the girl’s father Satish Kumar noticed this, the driver returned the vehicle to Eluru hospital to take another cylinder.

After getting another cylinder, the driver was about to start his journey to Vijayawada when it was noticed there was no movement of the infant. The doctors confirmed that the bay had died.

The inconsolable parents of the infant blamed the negligence on the part of duty nurse and ambulance driver for the baby’s death. They said that the nurse on duty delayed sending the baby and the driver had neglected to put a spare cylinder of oxygen in the vehicle.
