Vijayawada: District Collector B Lakshmikantham said on Tuesday the district administration planted 40,000 saplings on Indrakeeladri to enhance the greenery on the hillock and also taking measures to protect the plants and trees.

He visited Durga temple and offered special prayers. To mark the occasion, he planted saplings and sprinkled water, along with the officials of forest department. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said under the guidance of Andhra Pradesh Urban Greenery and Beautification Corporation saplings are being planted on the hill areas of the city on Indrakeeladri and Gunadala.

He said the district administration is taking steps to fulfil the promises made by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to the people of Vijayawada during his visit to the city one month ago. Temple executive officer A Surya Kumari presented the portrait of Goddess Kanakadurga on the occasion.
