Ongole: Ongole MP and YSR Congress Party senior leader Y V Subbareddy demanded that the State government reveal the benefits of the special package that was offered by the Central government in the place of Special Category Status. He alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu government was not exerting pressure on Centre for Special Category Status as it has a fear that the Central government may reopen the Cash-for-Vote case.

Addressing the mediapersons at his residence here on Tuesday, Subbareddy said,“The TDP government says that the SCS is a closed chapter. When the bifurcation bill is introduced, they asked for the SCS for 10 years. How come they offer a package instead of the status? The SCS is promised to the State by the Central government in Parliament and if the State and Central governments could not respect the promise, why should we conduct the sessions,” he questioned.

“Special Category Status is the right of Andhra people and we will stand by the demand until the Central government announces it,” the MP said. He said Chief Minister Chandrababu calling the SCS as a closed chapter and highlighting the package was not acceptable to the Opposition parties. He sought an explanation from the government on how the special package was better than the Special Category Status (SCS).

The MP also demanded the government and Ministers like Lokesh should stop spreading false information that the YSRCP was instrumental in getting the release of funds under NREGA scheme stopped. He said the ‘irresponsible comments’ made by Ministers and TDP leaders would be taken to the notice of Lok Sabha Speaker, Rajya Sbha Chairman and State Assembly Speaker.
