Guntur: Women self-help groups in the districts should strive to improve their income and strive to improve the conditions of their villages, said District Collector Kona Sasidhar.

He was speaking at the annual meeting of District Women Mutually Aided Cooperative Organisations from all 57 mandals of the district here on Tuesday. He added that the women play a vital role in the family and they should participate in the growth of the society too.

He explained that there are 62,361 Thrift Societies in the district with 6,23,601 women as members and 20,000 women are not members in any society, so he asked them to enrol. If society members face problems from the banks they should brought this to his notice through the director of DRDA, the Collector advised.

With an aim of helping the poor, the government has decided to implement schemes through the network of the Thrift Committee members and they should remember the development of the village is depend upon their services, he cautioned.

Zilla Parishad chairperson Johnny Moon assured the gathering that the Zilla Parishad will come forward to help the women regarding the problems of dealing with marketing or loans. Habib Basha, Director of DRDA, presided over the meeting.
