Tirupati: District Collector P S Pradyumna called upon the scientists to take up research in zero-budget natural farming to get high yield. He interacted with agricultural and veterinary scientists at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) here on Wednesday.
Addressing the scientists, Pradyumna stated that scientists can make farming as profitable profession. He exhorted them to develop new crop varieties which can sustain drought conditions. “People are expecting 100 per cent organic products from the farmers.
There is high demand for organic food products and vegetables in open market, scientists should take it as a challenge to improve the natural farming practices for the benefit of farmers,” the Collector said.
He advised the scientists to develop the seeds for dry crop varieties for next Kharif season in the district. Similarly, the Collector suggested veterinary scientists to work on natural methods to get higher milk production from cattle. He expressed concern over scientists showing interest to administer harmful injections to the cattle for more milk.
“Milk produced by natural methods is safe for humans,” he added. He informed horticulture scientists to bring the mango, papaya, guava, citrus and other fruit varieties for cultivation to local conditions.
More than 100 scientists from RARS and Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) shared their research experiences with the Collector. Joint Collector II Chandramouli, RARS Associate Director TCM Naidu, SVVU Director (extension) D Srinivasulu and other district officials were present.
