Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) will be organising state-level sports and cultural meet from November 26-30 on the varsity premises here.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, SVVU Vice-Chancellor Y Haribabu stated 415 students of three veterinary colleges, one fishery college and one dairy technology college will be participating in the ninth annual state-level inter-collegiate sports and cultural meet.

To encourage the sports and cultural activities among students, the V-C said varsity is spending funds liberally The SVVU has allocated Rs 25 lakh for conducting state-level event. Haribabu explained swimming event is included in the sports list and will be conducted at Srinivasa Sports Complex here. The SVVU will be conducting 9 sports events for men and 8 events for women.

The V-C informed that famous badminton coach and Dronacharya awardee Gangula Prasad will attend as special invite and inaugurate the sports and cultural meet on November 26. He further stated varsity has allocated funds to various colleges−Rs 1.72 crore for Gannavaram, Rs 99.5 lakh for Proddatur and Rs 23.3 lakh for Rapur−for development of sports infrastructure.

Dean of Students Affairs Surjana Rao stated that the winners of sports meet will be playing in national-level inter-varsity sports competitions to be held at Bengaluru in the first week of December. “Cultural events will be organised for students every day evening at varsity auditorium,” he added.

Later, the V-C and varsity officials have launched the sport and cultural meet poster at Administrative Building on the varsity premises. Registrar Srinivas Rao, Director (Extension) D Srinivas Rao, Deans Chandrasekhar and Padmanaba Reddy, Principal Eswara Prasad and PD Jayachandra were present.
