Tirupati: South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager (GM) Vinod Kumar Yadav has assured local officials that Tirupati railway station will become world class station by 2020. The north and south sides of the station will be redeveloped under Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) mode and passengers will have all amenities.

He inspected the premises of Tirupati railway station here on Thursday. Speaking to the media, he said renowned architects will be consulted to give station a modern look. On south side, passengers will have spacious waiting halls, good hotel and other facilities.

The GM said that the development of West railway station is in their priority list. About the level crossing on the busy Rayalacheruvu road, he said, they are willing and ready to take up the Railway Under Bridge (RUB) works immediately. But, it is for the State government to give them road connectivity and it has to take care of the drain which is passing through the gate.

At this juncture, TUDA Chairman G Narasimha Yadav and TUDA Secretary K Madhavi Latha, who came there, have met the GM. They discussed the bridge issue with him. Vinod Kumar Yadav told them that if RUB is feasible and is taken up by Railways then it will bear the entire cost of the project. Only road connectivity and drain issue have to be taken care of by State government.

On the other hand, if RUB is to be built as per norms then the Railways and State government has to contribute 50 per cent of the cost each. Vinod Kumar also told Madhavi Latha that SCR Divisional Engineer Rama Rao will be in touch with TUDA and they both can work together to finalise the proposal. He further said if TUDA organises any coordination meeting in this regard then Guntakal DRM will attend to it.

However, he asked her to finalise any plan within one month. He also visited the level crossing opposite RTC Central Bus Station and said that only a small RUB can be planned there with limited height. That may be suitable for two-wheelers, autorickshaws and cars. He said that once the plans are finalised they will bear the entire cost and again road linkage and other issues have to be looked after by the State Government.

Regarding Nadikudi-SriKalahasti line, he said that there were some land acquisition problems. “The State government is cooperating in this matter and the Chief Secretary assured that the problems will be resolved very soon,” he stated and said it can be completed in 2-3 years once the land acquisition is over. DRM VP Singh, Senior DCM Rakesh, Station Director K Satyanarayana, Station Manager M Subodh Mithra, RPF DSP Chandrasekhar, GPF DSP Ramesh Kumar and others participated.
