Minister for Sports, Youth Services and Judiciary Kollu Ravindra inaugurated the 15th edition of National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM-2017) at the Port Stadium on Friday.

Visakhapatnam: Minister for Sports, Youth Services and Judiciary Kollu Ravindra inaugurated the 15th edition of National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM-2017) at the Port Stadium on Friday. A total of 4,500 athletes aged under 14 and 16 from 400 districts across the country are participating in 30 events. Speaking on the occasion, Ravindra said that sports and games will give physical strength.

The state government has been giving top priority to sports and games along with academics. Visakhapatnam is being promoted as a sports hub in the state, he added. The government decided to set up Kreeda Vikas Kendras in three strategic locations, including Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati. The government also spending huge amounts to construct 3,000 playgrounds which would be ready by 2018 end, the Minister said.

The Minister announced special incentives to the best athletes, if they bring medals to the state.Anju Bobby George, District Collector Pravin Kumar, MLAs and sports persons of various fields graced the occasion.
