The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted 200 acres land in two phases for the construction of the VIT campus. The first phase of the university is now ready due to speedy construction of multi-storied buildings in a record time of 11 months.
Addressing a media conference at a hotel here on Saturday, vice-president of VIT-Amaravati, Sekar Viswanathan, said the academic block has been named after a teacher and former President of India Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and it was built in an area of 2,11,000 square feet with five floors.
The hostel block has been built in 1,11,000 square feet area with nine floors. Sekar said the construction works of two buildings began in January 2017 and have been completed in a record time of only 11 months. He informed the total constructed area was 3,22,000 square feet.
He said two new blocks would be dedicated to the nation by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the presence of Ministers, MLAs, MLCs, officials and other dignitaries on November 28.
He announced that VIT becomes the first private university in the State to start classes not only in Amaravati, but also in the entire AP.
He said 630 students from 24 States of India are studying in VIT-AP, Amaravati. He further said B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D courses are offered in various disciplines.
He announced the VIT has 33 years of rich history and hoped the University would achieve excellent results in Andhra Pradesh.
He informed that admissions to the B.Tech degree programmes are through VIT Engineering examinations, VITEEE, Which is common for all the four VIT campuses i.e. Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal and Amaravati., he added.
