Visakhapatnam: The ensuing grand alumni meet being organised by Andhra University Alumni Association (AAA) will see the inauguration of three big ticket projects – Andhra University Convention Centre, Siemens Centre of Excellence and GMR Smart Seminar Complex.

Andhra University alumnus and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu will open all the three facilities that belong to the varsity during his visit to the City of Destiny for participating in the much-awaited alumni meet on December 9.

Final touches are being given to the Andhra University Convention Centre. The state-of-the-art convention centre is being set up on the university land at the scenic Beach Road has a tortoise shaped structure, if seen through the bird’s eye view.

The unique convention centre in the city has a big auditorium with three layered seating arrangement that can accommodate 2,000 audience. Besides the main auditorium, it has VVIP Conference Hall with a capacity of 14 members and Mini-Conference Hall that could accommodate 200 members.

Speaking to The Hans India, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor said: “Apart from catering to the needs of university’s seminars, symposia and events, this convention centre would be open for public events. The landmark structure has been built with the varsity fund of Rs 13.5 crore.”

Another pivotal project, Siemens Centre of Excellence, which is being set up with the initiative of Siemens firm at Andhra University College of Engineering (AUCE), will be equipped with the top notch training machinery on par with industry standards. The centre furnished with tools and machines worth Rs 300 crore focuses on imparting skill-based training for engineering graduates.

“The university has spent Rs 3 crore for setting up of 15 modern laboratories with computers, tools and machinery. This centre not only offers training to Andhra University engineering students but also to its affiliated colleges,” said the Andhra University Vice-Chancellor.

AUCE Principal PS Avadhani explained that this centre helps make the engineering students industry-ready. “Even after completion of the course, engineering graduates are undergoing training for six months to one year to hone their skills and gain hands on experience. So, this centre provides skill-based training during their three-and-a-half years course of study,” he said.

Apart from these two projects, GMR Group has been setting up a GMR Smart Seminar Complex at Science and Technology Bahavan. The seminar hall is being set up with Rs 40 lakh fund and has a seating capacity of 80 members.
