Kurnool: YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday paid rich tributes to social reformer and a strong advocate of social equality Mahatma Jyotirao Phule at Puttapasam village in Gonegandla mandal.

Before setting out on his Praja Sankalpa Yatra from Puttapasam on Tuesday, Jagan offered floral tributes to Mahatma Phule. He recalled the contribution of the great reformer in the fight against social discrimination and superstitions.

The YSRCP chief addressed a public meeting at Gonegandla mandal headquarters. Criticising Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for failing to fulfill promises made during 2014 elections, he asked the people if they require a Chief Minister who betrayed the people.

He said ration to shops had been cut, power tariff has been increased abnormally and not a single house was constructed for the poor people under the TDP regime. He said the days have come when the people should dethrone the Chief Minister who failed to stand by the commitment made to them. He said leaders should win the confidence of people.

He said Chandrababu Naidu also failed to fulfill the promise made to weavers. He promised to increase subsidy provided to them from Rs 600 to Rs 1,000. Jagan also flayed Naidu for betraying washermen community.

Jagan said his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy ensured equal justice to all sections of people. Inspired by his father, he had introduced Nava Ratnalu to fulfill wishes of all sections of the society. The Opposition leader assured that he will bear the expenses of the students who pursue higher education. He said he will pay Rs.20000 towards mess charges to the students pursuing engineering and medical education.

Jagan said Kurnool was reeling under severe drought despite having water resources. Pulikanuma Project would cater to the irrigation needs besides solving the drinking water problem. Jagan recalled that his father had sanctioned Rs 260 crore for the construction of the project.

Around 90 per cent of the project has been completed, if Rs 20 crore was spared then the entire project would be completed. But the project is being neglected by the ruling party, he lamented. Jagan assured that he would complete Pulikanuma and Gajuladinne projects to protect the area from drought conditions. YSR Congress Party leaders Chenna Keshava Reddy, B Y Ramaiah and others accompanied Jaganmohan Reddy.
