University Contract Teachers’ Association members to intensify stir

University Contract Teachers’ Association (UCTA) members opposed the recruitment of regular faculty in universities through the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission  (APPSC).

Srikakulam: University Contract Teachers’ Association (UCTA) members opposed the recruitment of regular faculty in universities through the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). As part of their state-wide agitation, contract teachers of BR Ambedkar University (BRAU), Srikakulam, launched a relay hunger strike recently.

On Tuesday, they decided to intensify the agitation as the government did not respond properly. Speaking to The Hans India, the agitating teachers, BV Ramana Murthy, H Subramanyam, R Tirupathi Rao, said that they have been working on a contract basis for the past several years and they were selected through proper channel with all required qualifications.

They demanded selection of regular faculty at the university level by not affecting its autonomous status. They also sought job security as they have been working on the contract basis. They underscored the need for equal payment for equal work on par with university regular faculty.

Law department teachers Y Rajendraprasad, JKL Sujatha, G Jayalakshmi, S Madhuri, K Krishnamurthy, journalism department faculty GV Leela Prasada Rao and contract faculty of other departments took part in the agitation.
