The academic senate of Andhra University decided to launch several new courses to be started from the next academic year. The meeting of the academic senate, chaired by Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao was held in the city on Wednesday.

Visakhapatnam: The academic senate of Andhra University decided to launch several new courses to be started from the next academic year. The meeting of the academic senate, chaired by Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao was held in the city on Wednesday.

The senate discussed 56 issues, including 91st annual report of the university. Later, the senate approved various new courses, including M Tech programmes in instrumentation, data analytics and cyber security. The senate also approved to introduce PG Diploma in yoga therapy.

The new programmes approved by the senate to be started from next academic year-six-month diploma in Spanish, Arabic and Urdu, one month course in Goods and Services Tax (GST), PG Diploma in corporate social responsibility (One year programme), food science and nutrition (Three years).

The senate also accepted B Sc )Mathematics, Economics and Computers) degree holders to join MA Economics and Applied Economics. The senate allowed B Sc Medical Lab Technology degree holders of NTR Health University to join M Sc Microbiology.

Courses for Defence Sector
The senate also approved to kick-start various courses to the employees of the defence sector. A three months yoga course with intake of 30, two-months course in disaster management, six-months course in safety and disaster management, three months course in fire industrial safety and three months course in naval ship building.

The senate reduced the intake of 50 students to 40 in MHRM with 30 regular and 10 for self-finance. As there is no response to the PG diploma in public relations, diploma in journalism and diploma in music course through distance education mode, those courses would be discontinued from next academic year.
