Bhimavaram: Protesting against the arrests of Tundurru Food Park agitators in Vijayawada, the CPM Delta Committee members staged a dharna in Bhimavaram on Wednesday.

The CPM workers took out a huge rally from Sundarayya Bhavan at Mentevari Thota area to Prakasham Chowk and staged a dharna in protest against the illegal arrests and demanded immediate release of the agitators.

District CPM secretariat member BV Varma and Town CPM secretary B Vasudeva Rao said that the villagers of Tundurru and other villages have taken up ‘Chalo Amaravati’ demanding stoppage of construction works of the Aqua Food Park in Tundurru. It may be recalled that the police arrested them when they reached Vijayawada.

The police started arrests on Tuesday itself, they alleged. Since 40 months, the people were demanding the shifting of the park from Tundurru but Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu did not respond to it and the state government used police force to suppress the movement. They demanded immediate release of their leaders and villagers who were illegally detained by police.

CPM leaders B Chaitanya Prasad, Bokka Rambabu, Kalibandi Satyanarayana K Krishna and K Rangarao also participated in the agitation. Meanwhile, CPM West Godavari Delta Committee Secretary B Balarama condemned the arrests of agitators and leaders at Vijayawada.
