Visakhapatnam: Commissioner of GVMC M Hari Narayanan announced that the GVMC will levy fines for open defecation and public urination. According to Visakhapatnam District Gazette 70/2017, the public urination and open defecation banned in the city. In order to keep up the city 24/7 ODF, the GVMC will levy fines on the people who violate the rules.

Rs 100 fine would be imposed for the first time, second time Rs 200 and third rime Rs 300, Hari Narayanan said. Once a person violates three times, action would be initiated according to the Act, he added. The builders and people while constructing the apartments, commercial complexes and group houses, they should arrange temporary toilets to the workers till the completion of construction.

If the owner of the construction site did not arrange temporary toilets, the GVMC would cancel the plan approval or not approve till the toilets were constructed for the working com121munity, the commissioner said.

The gated communities and apartments where 100 and above flats are situated, each flat owner should hand over the dry and wet garbage separately to the sanitary worker. The flat owners should procure green basket for wet garbage and blue basket for dry garbage. This practice is also mandatory as a gazette 21/2017 brought with immediate effect, Hari Narayana said.
