Guntur: Hundreds of commuters were subjected to wait as vehicles were trapped in traffic jam from Sankar Vilas to Lodge Centre here on Wednesday. There were hundreds of two wheelers and four wheelers that waited patiently for the traffic jam to be cleared off.
While the elected people’s representatives are making tall promises about the building of another flyover with five lanes, the commuters have been forced to face the traffic problems on a daily basis.
Thousands of vehicles are plying over the flyover, which is the only bridge between one and two constituencies of Guntur. Even a slight deviation in the traffic is causing severe delay for the commuters.
Recently the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) announced that it would construct a Railway Under Bridge (RUB) and Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at Shankar Vilas, and various teams visited and announced that the work would start soon.
Citizens of Guntur wholeheartedly welcomed the proposal of the new bridges which certainly will ease the congested traffic. While blocking several intersections in the street, city police have been creating more traffic jams and confusion. Particularly in the busy morning hours, one has to wait for at least 45 minutes to cross the bridge and at the Brodipeta signal point, many lanes intermingles with the main road making the problem more complicated.
People are requesting the civic body to explore other routes to help the commuters to avoid the hectic congestion on the bridge.
