Visakhapatnam: “There is no safety and security to the women of all ages. The government and security agencies failed in providing safety and security to the women. Instead of providing security to the women, the police also abusing, harassing and assaulting the women,” popular writer Volga alias P Lalitha Kumari) lamented. Though there are several Acts and rules for women’s protection, they are not being implemented, she pointed out.

All India Democratic Women’s Association’s (AIDWA) organised a seminar on ‘Let Live – Let grow girl child’ here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Volga alleged that the government failed to provide security to the women. Once the girls venture out, the parents are worrying about their safety. In fact, the girls would look after the parents’ welfare more effectively than sons, she said.

“Still, majority of the women in the country are not getting healthy food, education and there is no freedom also. Due to the lack of the hygienic food, the women become very weak. If, the government is not taking steps to provide safety and security in all aspects, it is not possible of a healthy society,” Volga said. State president of AIDWA B Prabhavathi said that the state government is implementing anti-women policies.
