Tirupati: Awareness rallies marked World AIDS Day in the district on Friday. Students belonging to Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women(SPMC-W), SVIMS Nursing, Paramedical and Physiotherapy organised a rally from SVIMS to Mahati Auditorium. Students were administered an oath on the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the winners of poster presentation and Essay writing contest.

Speaking on the occasion, the SVIMS Director Dr TS Ravikumar said that SVIMS and SPMC-W will chalk out an action plan to bring awareness among people on AIDS and the precautions to be taken. Dr Sreenivasa Rao, Dr M Hanumantha Rao, Dr Anju Ade, Dr Sudha Rani were among those present.

The District AIDS and Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU) organised rallies in Tirupati and Chittoor. In Tirupati a rally was held from SV High School ground to NaluguKalla Mandapam. Hundreds of school and college students, members of various NGOs participated. They organised a human chain at the end of therally. Junior Judge P Vijaya participated as Chief Guest. Dr Perol Yadav from DM&HO (AIDS & Leprosy) office, PODTT Dr Vijaya Kumari, DPMOs, APMOs and others took part.

In Chittoor, after the rally, a meeting was held in Ambedkar Bhavan in which the ZP Chairperson S Geervani participated as Chief Guest. She called for the society without AIDS. “Everyone should work in eradicating this epidemic. No one should show any discrimination towards AIDS patients”, she averred. District Medical and Health office officials and others participated.
