Rajamahendravaram: East Godavari district administration is planning to increase coffee plantations in the agency area, mainly in Maredumilli. The soil in Maredumilli is fertile and suitable for cultivation of coffee.

District collector Karthikeya Mihsra on Friday inspected coffee plantations in Maredumilli and directed the officials of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) to increase coffee plantations on par with Araku in Visakhapatnam district.

He also directed ITDA officials to chalk out an action plan for establishing a coffee museum and also to develop existing eco-based tourism spots in the Agency area. He underlined the need to cultivate internal crop coriander on a massive scale.

Maredumilli and its surrounding areas are the best tourist spots in the state having abundant opportunities to develop tourism, mainly eco-tourism in this area, he added.

Later, the collector inspected the ongoing works of resorts coming up with 20 cottages and swimming pool in Maredumilli and underlined the need to complete it as per schedule. ITDA project officer A S Dinesh Kumar and other officials accompanied the collector.
