Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) proposed Rahul Gandhi’s name for AICC president’s post. As part of election process of the Congress party, APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy, former union minister K Krupa Rani and senior leader Tulasi Reddy signed the papers by proposing Rahul Gandhi’s name for the top post in the party.

They expressed confidence that Rahul Gandhi would be elected as Prime Minister for the country in near future. On the occasion, Raghuveera Reddy criticised the governments both at Centre and State for delaying the Polavaram Project for various reasons.

Speaking to the mediapersons, he said a Congress delegation would meet Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari on December 5 on the issue. He pointed out that it was the Congress party which granted the national project status to Polavaram.

Both the BJP and TDP were neglecting the most important project, he lamented. The APCC chief said the Congress would not be silent on the Polavaram issue as both the State government and Centre were causing injustice to Andhra Pradesh. Already the Congress government initiated the project by spending Rs 5,000 crore, he said and added that 32 per cent of canal works were completed during the party’s rule in the State.

Raghuveera wondered why the State government was again planning to handover the execution of works of Polavaram Project to the Central government. He alleged that there have been differences between the State and Centre over distribution of commission on the project works. He demanded that the Polavaram Project should be completed by the end of 2018 and Centre should bear the entire expenditure.

On the other hand, the leaders of Congress party burnt the effigies of the State and Central governments at the State
Congress office here. They raised slogans against both the governments for their failure in the execution of Polavaram Project works.

Party leaders Sunkara Padmashree, Kolanukonda Sivaji, Meesala Rajeshwara Rao, D Muralimohana Rao, Akula Srinivasa Kumar, Gurunatham and several other leaders were present.
