CPM State secretary P Madhu alleged that the BJP-led NDA government has cheated the Andhra Pradesh people by stopping the Polavaram Irrigation Project.

Bhimavaram: CPM State secretary P Madhu alleged that the BJP-led NDA government has cheated the Andhra Pradesh people by stopping the Polavaram Irrigation Project.

He demanded that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should pressurise the Centre to start the works of Polavaram Project immediately. Or otherwise, his party along with the like-minded parties will give a call for State bandh.

Addressing the media at Sundarayya Bhavan in Bhimavaram town in West Godavari district on Friday, the CPM leader said that the BJP government at the Centre failed to fulfill the promises made to the State. He pointed out that Polavaram is a National Project and it should be constructed at any cost.

He pointed out that the BJP which had demanded 10 year Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh in Parliament, failed to provide the status to the State.

The Centre also failed to sanction a steel plant at Kadapa, Tribal and Petroleum Universities and Railway Zone for State. Though a special package was announced, the Centre failed to release funds, he said.

The CPM leader suggested to the Chief Minister discuss with all parties on the State interests, mostly on the Polavaram issue and express the State’s protest against the Centre’s attitude. He said that the TDP should know how the BJP-led Central government back-stabbed it.

Madhu opposed the amendment made to Land Acquisition Act-2013. He opined that the earlier Act was beneficial to farmers, tenant farmers and agricultural labourers.
