Guntur: Society should get rid of the wrong notions about the HIV/AIDS and government was committed in providing complete cooperation to the victims and for the eradiication of the killer disease, said Kona Sasidhar, District Collector. He was speaking on the occasion of World AIDS Day spending quality time with HIV affected children at his camp office here on Friday.

The Collector said that the district has 21,000 AIDS patients and pension was being given to 4,000 patients and another 3,500 would get financial help soon. And as per an estimation there are 1,800 HIV affected children in the district. He urged the government officers to extend help and be kind and considerate to each one of them.

Ch.Vijaya Rao, Urban Superintendent of Police said that the general public should learn how to interact with the HIV patients and prevent the menace. Ch.Venkata Appala Naidu,(Rural) Superintendent of Police said that the children infected with AIDS were innocent and it would be cruel on our part to ill treat them. He offered every help from the Police Department for the well-being of the child patients.

The top three officers of the district interacted with children and encouraged them to sing and dance. They also had snacks with them. The officers interviewed the children who told them that they would like to become IAS and IPS officers in the future. The District Collector has distributed books and school bags to the children.
