Visakhapatnam: Offering both entertainment and knowledge, the new edition of Vizag Fest 2017 kicked off on a grand note at Andhra University Engineering College Grounds here on Friday.

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao inaugurated a 10-day fest which is being organised in association with the Department of Culture of Andhra Pradesh.

The festival, which was thrown open to all at free of charge, comprises book exhibition, literary talks, short film shows and science expo with an intention to provide a relief to citizens who got busy with their daily engagements .

Andhra University Registrar V Uma Maheswara Rao opened the science expo put by the students has nearly 100 projects for display. A total of 200 cultural programmes would be organised as part of the fest. As many as 100 stalls were set up displaying a huge number of books on a wide range of topics.

Literary talks, release of books would be organised at Gurajada Sahitya Vedika. Cartoon and photo exhibitions and food stalls would also be part of the fest.

On Friday, writer Suddala Ashok Teja attended the inaugural programme of the event. Chandra Bose, Goreti Venkanna, C Uma Maheswara Rao, RP Patnaik and others would take part in the fest.

Festival chairman and former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University KV Ramana, CITU state president Ch Narasinga Rao, Fest fest secretary A Aja Sarma, fest members N Ramanachalam, A. Ramakrishna, K Subhashini, Yellaji, PV Gopala Rao, Dandu Nageswara Rao and BB Ganesh were present.
