Nellore: The district administration, which bagged first place across the state for implementing Atmagauravam programme that aimed to construct toilets as part of Swachh Bharat are now getting ready for starting 41-day follow up activity insisting beneficiary for using the toilets.

District in-charge collector A Md Imtiaz interacting with media persons at the Collectorate on Saturday, categorically informed that the efforts are on make the district from ODF status to ODF-Plus in the coming 41 days. He said they had constructed 3,09,262 toilets across the district for last three years and they had achieved 16th position in the country due to Aadhaar seeding issues. Otherwise, the district would have bagged third position in the country, he added. Imtiaz said they had planned multipronged strategy to create awareness among beneficiary and to inculcate an idea of utilising toilets for good health, environs and community health among them. He admitted that the usage of toilets is only up to 80 per cent and the programme aims at improving to cent per cent. He explained that Atmagauravam team wear white dress, green scarf and a Deeksha ribbon during the period indicating the significance of programme.

He said the programme is going to be launched on Sunday by Ministers and various teams would stage rallies in all places creating awareness about the open defecation practices and consequent poor sanitation.

The in-charge collector said Clean and Green drive, night stays, early morning visits along with village vigilance committees, awareness sessions in schools, competitions, organising human chains, signature campaign, run of pride, procession of burying the water vessel being used for open defecation rwith a rally, organising exhibitions, health camps, meets with religious heads, awareness on waste management, hands wash day, knowledge on disposal of napkins to adolescent girls, cultural programmes and selfie contest with toilets.

On last day, they will organise success rallies in the villages. He said officials of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan are preparing status of toilets in all schools across the district and the school heads were asked to send proposals. He said this issue would be focused separately for redeeming the children from toilet-related problems. Superintending Engineer of RWS RV Krishna Reddy and programme coordinator Sushmita Reddy were present.
