Vijayawada: Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chacellor Prof A Rajendra Prasad, said that there is need to improve standard of living of the poor. “In spite of several welfare schemes being implemented, all are not becoming partners in the development,” he said.

He felt that there was need to involve the BPL families in the development. He addressed a meeting held in the Acharya Nagarjuna University in connection with the Indian Association of Social Sciences Institutions XVIIIth annual conference held on the ANU premises near here on Sunday.

Speaking on this occasion, he said that when BPL families would become partners in the schemes, development was possible. “At present GDP is increasing in the country, per capital income is increasing, corporate companies are getting profits but some poor families are not becoming partners in the development for the last two decades,” he lamented.

Prof K Madhu Babu of Economics faculty, meeting organising secretary Prof M Koteswara Rao, ANU former V-C Bala Mohan Das were among those who participated in the meeting.
