Lovers commit suicide in Ponduru

Srikakulam: In a heart-rending incident, lovers committed suicide at Kinthali village in Ponduru mandal on Saturday. According to sources from the village and sub-inspector of police Y Krishna, they were identified as Annepu Pawan Kalyan (19) of Kanimetta village and Modalavalasa Renuka (18) of Modalavalasa village in the same mandal.
They were studying Intermediate second year HEC group in government junior college at Kinthali in the same mandal.
Villages of both the deceased are situated near the college and during the first year the developed friendship. Subsequently, it turned into love.
Parents of Pawan Kalyan, Haranadha Rao and Induvadana, who are working as a mason and farm labourer and parents of Renuka, Ramana Rao and Rohini also farm workers. The lovers took part in AIDS awareness rally on Friday from the college and did not return to their homes in the evening.
Their parents waited till night and started enquiring about them. It is learnt that their parents came to know about their love and decided to marry them off. Lovers came to know about their parents’ decision and decided commit suicide by hanging from a tree branch.
Locals found their bodies on Saturday and informed police. JR Puram CI Y Ramakrishna, SI Y Krishna rushed to the spot and found letters purportedly written by them stating that no one was responsible for their deaths.
Pawan Kalyan was the only son of Haranadha Rao and Induvadana. Renuka was the elder daughter of Ramana Rao and Rohini. After learning about the incident, a pall of gloom descended on their houses in the both the villages.
