Hyderabad: Even as a storm is brewing over AP government’s move to provide 5 per cent reservations to Kapus, Justice K L Manjunath, who headed the BC Commission to examine if Kapus were eligible to be included in the Backward Classes, is likely to submit his report to the AP government on Monday.

Justice Manjunath, who is understood to have recommended against the inclusion of Kapus in the BC list, is expected to send his report to the government through a messenger.

According to sources, the AP Cabinet approved the proposal to accord BC status to Kapus and provide reservations to them in education, employment and economic benefits, basing on the report submitted by the other three members of the commission since they constituted majority.

Already, BCs are on the warpath with the government for the latter’s move to provide reservation to Kapus by declaring them as BCs. In several districts, they have staged protests, demanding that the government review its decision. It remains to be seen to what extent Justice Manjunath’s report would add fuel to fire.
