Vijayawada: Muslims participated in the procession taken out from Panja Centre to K Market in the Old City here on Saturday to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed.

Wearing traditional white dress, white and green colour caps and turbans, a large number of Muslims took part in the procession. Children and youth holding the placards and banners enthusiastically participated in the procession.

Similarly, rally was also taken out from Ajit Singh Nagar to Panja Centre in the afternoon. Mosques were illuminated and decorated as part of the celebrations of Prophet Mohammed. Holy relic of Prophet has been displayed for the devotees at Jama Masjid in the Old City. Every year, the holy relic is displayed to the devotees on the birth anniversary of Prophet. Vijayawada and Hajarat Bal shrine in Jammu and Kashmir are the two places such relic is displayed every year.

Sermons were delivered in the masjids to mark the birth anniversary. Muslims celebrated the birth anniversary in Kondapalli, Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Nandigama, Nuzvid and other parts of the district.
