Vijayawada: Minister for Irrigation Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, assured that he will try to solve problems of the differently abled and set up a committee under the aegis of District Collector B Lakshmikantham.

He said that he will attend the meeting of the committee and try to solve their problems.

He addressed a meeting conducted by Vikalangula Samsta at the Krishna district Exhibition Society Hall here on the occasion of World Differently Abled Day on Sunday.

He said that he would conduct a meeting with the leaders of differently abled to solve their problems. He said that the differently abled have intelligence and talent.
He said that there was a need to bring out innate talent in the differently abled to encourage them in different fields. He said the district administration had given training to 200 differently abled persons to create self-employment and he instructed officials to impart training to another three hundred differently abled. He reminded that the government was giving Rs 1,500 per month pension to the differently abled and assured that he would sanction houses and pensions to the eligible in the coming Janma Bhoomi progamme.

District Collector B Lakshmikantham, said that there are 1.35 lakh differently abled persons in the district. The district administration had created a data base with their details. He said that he would conduct a meeting with the officials within a week and take steps for the welfare of differently abled.

He said that the district administration would fill backlog vacancies of differently abled within a month. He explained welfare schemes being implemented by the government for the welfare of differently abled and urged them to avail the benefit of the schemes.

Later, Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao handed over a cheque of Rs 44 lakh relating to differently abled.
