Nellore: Tirupati MP Dr Varaprasada Rao opined that toilets in rural areas are not being utilised by local population due to non-availability of water and drainage system. He addressed at the formal inaugural session of 41-day follow up programme of Atmagauravam programme at VRC grounds in Nellore on Sunday and said, `even though the programme is useful it would only be successful if the facilities are improved in villages.’

He also said he had visited 1,300 villages and 400 Dalit colonies in the constituency and observed conditions there. He appreciated efforts of the administration for making the district ODF achieving first position across the state.

MLC B Ravi Chandra has said due to the efforts of the officials, the district bagged the 16th rank at national level for implementing the programme for last three years. They would submit proposals to government for taking up the campaign. BMR Charitable Trust provided a vehicle for Kavali constituency for campaigning.

District In-Charge Collector Imtiaz said they had cleaned the Collectorate premises on Sunday as part of Swachha Bharat and started the Deeksha. He said village level vigilance committee has to take steps for utilising the constructed toilets.

Mayor Abdul Aziz said Deeksha refers to religious activity and one has to treat it as an important activity for community health irrespective of religions. Nuda Chairman K S Reddy, joint collector-2 VVS Reddy, RWS SE RV Krishna Reddy, and otherofficials were present.
