Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) celebrated ‘International Day of Disabled Persons’ in Tirupati on Sunday. Students of RASS Vikas Vihar, Residential Special School, Navajeevan Blind School and Sravanam Deaf School and their parents have participated.

Tirupati: Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) celebrated ‘International Day of Disabled Persons’ in Tirupati on Sunday. Students of RASS Vikas Vihar, Residential Special School, Navajeevan Blind School and Sravanam Deaf School and their parents have participated. The cultural programmes performed by the disabled persons have received huge applause by the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, former MP Prof Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad complimented the disabled persons that they stand ahead in many fields. Government is extending all cooperation to them through various schemes. Without feeling the disability as a curse, they should come forward to take up the opportunities.

RASS General Secretary G Munirathnam, Tirupati MLA M Suguna, TUDA Chairman G Narasimha Yadav, Andhra Bank DGM Ganapathi Rao and RASS ED Venkata Rathnam also spoke. Prizes were distributed to the winners of sports and cultural events.

Another programme was organised by MGM High School on Sunday. MEO Bellamkonda Sudhakar, Headmistress Aruna and resource person Lalitha participated. About 30 children have participated along with their parents. Senior Physician Dr P Krishna Prasanthi has given a motivational lecture on how to take care of Physically Disabled children.

She stressed the need to avoid consanguineous (between close relatives) marriages. “The parents should train their children instead of becoming depressed. The mothers and members of the family should give lot of social support to the disabled children, she said.

Anantapur: MLA V Prabhakar Choudhury has observed that the differently abled are performing far better than the physically abled in the society on many fronts.

Participating in the 58th World Disabled Day at the Industrial Estate here on Sunday, MLA Prabhakar has reiterated that many differently abled persons are shining in multiple fields and are performing better than the normal persons.

The State and central governments had formulated multiple welfare schemes for them including, scholarships, establishment of hostels, financial incentives for the newly wed, tri-cycles and providing technical training etc.

There are 13 backlog posts lying vacant. He said he would make efforts to get them filled with eligible persons. He has said that a hostel for 192 students was opened in the town recently. Pre-matric and post-matric scholarships and Rs.1 lakh as wedding incentive for 160 newly-wed have been disbursed recently.

ID cards to old age people, spectacles and hearing machines and travel concession passes by Rail and RTC were also given. The MLA called upon beneficiaries to apply for disability equipment by December 15. Disabled Welfare Assistant Director Ravindra also spoke.

S K University also observed the International Day of the Disabled. Vice-Chancellor K Rajagpal and Registrar K Sudhakar Babu, in their address, observed that the differently abled were performing well in several fields.

JC lauds disabled persons
Kadapa: Joint Collector (2) A Siva Reddy has lauded that differently abled persons are showcasing their remarkable talent in various fields. Addressing in the meeting jointly organised by Disable, Old aged Welfare department here on Sunday, he has said that the State government has been implementing several schemes for the welfare of differently abled persons. They are provided pensions, scholarships, bank loans, ration cards, house sites, bus passes, reservations in government jobs etc.

The government is contemplating to invite the differently abled persons to bankers’ meetings to provide loans to them. The Joint Collector-2 has directed the disabled department A D to furnish detailed report to the Collector on backlog vacancies in various departments in the district. Disable department AD B Vani and others were present.
