Tirupati: YSR Congress Party gets a blow in Kuppam Constituency, in Chittoor District with party leader M Subramanyam Reddy’s resignation from the party. He contested three times against Chandrababu Naidu in that constituency and lost deposits every time.

He used to get around 40,000 votes every time. During YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister of combined AP State, he served as Chittoor ZP Chairman. After YS Jaganmohan Reddy floated his party, Subramanyam Reddy joined it.

However, he was denied ticket and the party has fielded Chandramouli with a view to get the vote bank of Vannekula Kshatriyas, whose population is around 60,000 out of over 2 lakh voters. In that elections Chandramouli got about 55,000 votes.

However, after the elections, the followers of Chandramouli have alleged that Subrahmanyam Reddy’s group had not worked for the party candidate. During the last three and half years, he was totally sidelined by the party. Subramanyam Reddy stays in Tirupati and visits Kuppam occasionally.

In a letter addressed to the party chief YS Jagan, he has stated that he campaigned in entire constituency before 2014 elections as he was promised the ticket. Though, he was denied the ticket, he had worked wholeheartedly for party candidate, he claimed. He was not getting any invitations for the party programmes.

He recalled in the letter that, Jagan has asked him to consult Punganur MLA and senior leader Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy who will take care of all aspects. But, he mentioned that Whenever senior leader Peddireddy visits Kuppam, he participates in the programmes with Chandramouli only and never invited him.

He even recently announced that Chandramouli will be the party candidate in the next elections also. With all these developments, his followers were disappointed about their future, and forced him to take a decision to safeguard their interests. In view of this, he has decided to quit the YSRCP. He was expected to take a decision about his future in a week.

As the Congress Party is also having a constituency in-charge in Kuppam and in view of that party position, he may not venture to go into that party again. This leaves him with options of TDP and BJP. Both the parties cannot give him a ticket in the Assembly elections as Chandrababu Naidu will be the candidate there.
