2 die, 9 fall ill after drinking polluted water
Two persons died after consuming water from a well in Kella village of Gurla mandal in the district and nine others fell sick and were admitted to general hospital on Sunday.
Vizianagaram: Two persons died after consuming water from a well in Kella village of Gurla mandal in the district and nine others fell sick and were admitted to general hospital on Sunday.
According to Superintendent of Police P Palaraju, 12 farm workers from Kella and Badaripeta villages of Gurla mandal went to shift paddy crop of KV Suryanarayana Raju. Apart from 12 workers, another eight women workers also joined the work.
Later, the workers consumed water from the well in the fields. Soon, around seven workers fell sick with complaints of vomiting and loose motions.
Locals and family members of the victims immediately shifted them to district general hospital for better treatment. But V Swami Naidu and N Adinarayana died in hospital. K Appala Naidu, K Srinu, D Ramu, P Raja Naidu and five others are undergoing treatment.
Cheepurupalli MLA K Mrinalini visited the hospital and consoled the kin of the victims. According to sources, the water in the well was contaminated with pesticides used to spray in paddy fields.
