Vijayawada: Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao Rao on Sunday said the State government is allocating more than Rs900 crore for pensions to differently-abled in the state every year.

Participating as chief guest in the International Day of Persons with Disabilities organised by the district administration at the Exhibition Society Hall in Auto Nagar on Sunday, the minister said the State government was implementing various welfare schemes for their development.

Stating that the government was paying a pension of Rs 1,500 every month to disabled, he said the district administration would allot 500 houses to physically challenged soon.

He also briefed the welfare schemes being implemented for welfare of families and persons with disabilities. Collector B Lakshmikantham said the district administration would collect the details of 1.35 lakh disabled persons’ families living in Krishna district and ensure implementation of welfare schemes.

He said the government would sanction Rs1 lakh to those who marry physically challenged. He announced the district administration would sanction bank loans to 200 disabled under the various self-employment schemes.

Giving details of scholarships, the collector said the government is sanctioning Rs1,000 to students studying in first class to fifth class, Rs1,800 scholarship for students studying in 6th to 8th standard and Rs2,250 for students studying in 9th and 10th class.

The collector said hearing aids, tricycles, artificial limbs and laptops were sanctioned to physically challenged in the district. Stating that three percent reservation is implemented for disabled in the district, the collector assured that 500 houses would be allotted to physically challenged under various housing schemes. Officials from revenue, DRDA, disabled and other departments attended the programme.
