Kurnool: YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s Praja Sankalpa Yatra has come to an end in Kurnool district on Sunday. On the concluding day, Jagan addressed Rythu Athmeeya Sammelanam at Erragudi village in Pathikonda constituency.

Several farmers from nook and corner of the district attended the Athmeeya Sammelanam and poured out their woes. A farmer of Pandurangapuram said that during the rule of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy they used to get around 3,000 cusecs of water to KC canal.

Due to weak lining works to canal, the bunds have developed breaches and now it is hard to get at least 1,500 cusecs of water, he said. He also urged the Opposition leader to pressurise the government to maintain 854 ft of water level at Srisailam Dam.

Another farmer Prabhakar Reddy said that several farmers were suffering huge losses due to supply of spurious seeds and pesticides. One Ramachandra Reddy was caught for manufacturing spurious seeds and pesticides by the Vigilance department, he said and added despite filing cases on him, no action has been initiated.

Responding on the farmers issues, Jagan alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his cabinet ministers were encouraging the spurious seeds and pesticides. He assured to make a separate law to prevent supply of spurious seeds and pesticides after his party comes to power.

The YSRCP chief also said that he would introduce YSR insurance scheme to cover all farmers including those who commit suicide, would be paid compensation immediately.

Jagan said the TDP has covered only 10 per cent of farmers under Chandranna Bima and the deceased family would be paid Rs1.5 lakh. The remaining amount of Rs3.5 lakh would be deposited in bank under joint account, tahsildar and member of deceased family member. Even the government won’t pay the amount it will pay only interest after 10 years that was given by the bank, Jagan said.

Another farmer, Bhaskar Reddy of Erragudi said that he was sanctioned agriculture loan of Rs1 lakh. Instead of waiving total amount, only Rs60,000 was waived and demanded to pay Rs40,000 along with interest.

Bharatiya Kisan Sangh vice-president Subba Reddy said there was a dire need to set up a tomato juice factory in Pathikonda. However, the government ignored the proposal because the tomatoes are not suitable for juice.

Only hybrid tomatoes are suitable for extracting juice as those are grown at Madanapalle and Chittoor. Subba Reddy said the Pathikonda farmers will also grow those tomatoes if the government supplies hybrid seeds.

After hearing all the farmers’problems, Jagan assured that he wants to bring smile on the faces of farmers if his party voted to power in ensuing elections.

The YSRCP chief also promised to complete construction of all pending reservoirs in the district. He thanked the people of Kurnool for showing lot of affection during his yatra as that has given him a new spirit to do something good.
