Srikakulam: Reservations for Kapu and other castes, Telaga, Balija and Ontari, under BC-F category will not cause any loss to existing BCs in the state, clarified minister for energy and TDP state president Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao. Speaking in a press conference at R&B guest house here on Sunday, Venkata Rao said that Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu assured separate corporation for Kapus and reservations under BC category during his padayatra before elections at Pithapuram in East Godvari district and fulfilled it.

YSRCP had been trying to derive a political mileage in the name of these reservations but failed utterly, he said pointed out that even Mudragada Padmanabham who agitated for the quota welcomed the decision of the TDP government. Even now some of the leaders in opposition are trying to get political mileage by instigating existing BC castes, the minister said and appealed to them that new category reservation under BC-F will not affect the existing four categories.

Reacting to BC Sankshema Sangham national president R Krishnaiah’s comments over Kapu reservations, Kala Venkata Rao questioned him why he was crying now when others get benefitted without causing loss to existing BCs. He criticised why Krishnaiah was silent when Telangana government removed 27 castes from BC list three years ago. The minister assured that the government will make continuous efforts to get assent of the President of India for the quota bill and also Centre’s nod. Clarifying doubts over BC Commission report led by Manjunatha, the minister said three out of the four members are positive for reservations and the government considered it.

On enhancement of number of Assembly seats, he opined that constitutional amendment is not required for it and only political decision is enough by the Central government. The decision to increase Assembly constituencies can be taken even six months before the elections, he said.
