Anantapur: Minister for rural housing and information Kalava Srinivasulu expressed confidence that the state would exert pressure on the Central government to pass the bill in Parliament for inclusion of Valmikis alias Boya community into ST category.

Addressing a press conference at his residence here on Sunday, Srinivasulu described the day of Assembly passing a unanimous resolution recommending inclusion of Valmikis into ST category as a historic and happiest day for the community. He said that party president N Chandrababu Naidu during his padayatra in 2013 had seen the pathetic condition of Valmikis and promised to work for according ST status to the community if TDP came to power.

True to his promise, he did work tirelessly for keeping his promise despite political limitations and problems, he said and added that the Chief Minister had taken a bold decision in this regard by passing a unanimous resolution.

The government had taken the decision after scientifically studying the pros and cons and political repercussions and passed the resolution. The minister said that the government will take its decision to its logical conclusion and see to it that the centre take appropriate steps for introducing a bill in Parliament and accord a constitutional status to the resolution that is passed by AP Assembly. He called upon the community to celebrate the birth anniversary of Valmiki as a major festival.

Earlier, several Valmiki and Boya Associations felicitated the minister for his tireless campaign in this regard.
