Ongole: The children and youth in the state should properly utilise the opportunities in science and technology that were available in the state and become scientists in future, wished Minister for Forests and Environment Sidda Raghava Rao.

Inaugurating a two-day programme of 25th State-level National Children’s Science Congress-2017 at RISE Engineering College here on Sunday, he said that the state government was giving top priority to the develolpemnt of science and technology centres by spending Rs 550 crore in Tirupati, Rs 25 crore in Rajamahendravaram and Rs 30 crore in Visakhapatnam.

The Minister lauded the children from the 13 districts of the state, who prepared 125 projects and models which were displayed at the exhibition. He encouraged them to innovate new technologies in future.

He mentioned the command control of the Chief Minister which runs on technology and alerts the public with information on cyclones, rains and even bolts in exact location. He promised to establish a science and technology centre in each district in future. Later, Minister Raghava Rao unveiled the Mahatma Gandhi statue placed at the RISE College campus and planted various saplings.

District Collector V Vinay Chand explained how the state government was incorporating science and technology in their daily lives. He said that with the information of the ISRO about the flood to Krishna river, the Chief Minister alerted the District Collectors to fill the reservoirs and projects with water. He said that measures were taken to conduct soil tests in the district with the help of drones.

MLC Karanam Balaram said that the students must undertake research studies on the issues being faced by the public and come up with innovative solutions Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhan, Joint Collector S Nagalakshmi, additional joint collector D Markandeyulu, chairman of RISE College Rangamannar, DEO Vijaybhaskar and other officials participated in the program.
