Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, which is according top priority for hygiene and cleanliness in the city since Vijayawada became capital of the state, is acquiring advanced machines to keep the city clean. Swachh Andhra Pradesh Corporation has so far handed over 70 machines to the corporation for lifting the garbage, cleaning the roads, desiltation of underground drains in the city.

On Sunday, Swachh Andhra Pradesh Corporation handed over some vehicles to the VMC at the vehicle depot. Mayor Koneru Sridhar, Municipal Commissioner J Nivas and other officials were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said the corporation got vehicles worth Rs 21 crore and tender process is on to get vehicles valued at another Rs 21 crore.

He said Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is giving top priority for the sanitation in Vijayawada city and sanctioning funds for its development. He said advanced machinery sanctioned by Swachh Andhra Pradesh is very useful to the city.

Municipal Commissioner J Nivas said the civic body had purchased 135 modern dumper bins to lift the garbage to the dumping yards. He added that modern machines are purchased by VMC for desiltation of underground drains in the city. Officials from engineering and public health attended the event.
