Nellore: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana paid a surprise visit to the District Government General Hospital (GGH) here on Monday and inspected the Out-Patient department, labs and other wings in the hospital.

He enquired with the patients about medical services being provided to them. Students of Medical College met the Minister and made an appeal to him to resolve drinking water problem in the college.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said 800 to 1,300 out-patients are visiting the Government General Hospital on an average per day. He also said that a new building has been constructed attached to the hospital and majority departments have been shifted. Rest of the departments would also be shifted to the new building soon, he added.

“Medical authorities have informed that there is a shortage of technicians in some departments especially in bio-chemistry, microbiology and pathology. Measures would be taken to recruit technicians in departments concerned after discussing with the Health Minister,” he stated.

Majority of the departments are having Assistant Professors and Associate Professors in the hospital, the Minister said and informed that they would arrange a separate grievance cell for the convenience of differently-abled persons.

He said that there is a need to improve facilities in some departments in the hospital. The Minister expressed happiness over 95 per cent of the patients getting medical treatment in the hospital.

Narayana mentioned that they would provide latest equipment to the hospital for better services to the poor. City mayor Sk Abdul Aziz, Nellore Municipal Commissioner S Dilli Rao, GGH Development Committee chairman Ch Narasimha Rao, Hospital Superintendent Radhakrishna and others were present.
