Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) got approval of Rs 35 lakh worth major research project from Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) of the DST for a period of 3 years. 

Tirupati: Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) got approval of Rs 35 lakh worth major research project from Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) of the DST for a period of 3 years.

Dr Ch M Kumari Chitturi, Associate Professor (Applied Microbiology) said that the project titled “Development of solid state fermentative production of chitosanase from crustacean waste and its application as an organic manure,” has received funding. The project is currently aimed at developing useful products form the waste.

The organic manure developed from the crustacean waste will be cost effective as compared to the chemical fertilisers and also has an additional bio-pest control activity.

On receiving project approval, SPMVV Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Prof V Durga Bhavani has appreciated M Kumari. She said that the start-ups will create financial support to women in the community through Women Technology Park and will generate employment opportunities for the women.

The technology will be introduced to the beneficiaries through demonstration of usefulness of technology or through training package. All the lab experiments will be carried out in the SPMVV, Tirupati. Field based experiments will be performed in the maritime industries through training packages which includes the demonstration of technology and training on the application of technology.
