Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Science Instrumentation Centre (SIC) has designed light-weight, digital and movable incubator by M Prabhakar. He is working as a senior technical assistant (diploma engineer) under the guidance of the Centre’s Director Prof B Deva Prasad Raju.

On the request of the Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University’s (SVVU) Extension department, the SIC employee has developed low-cost incubator. It is very much useful to industries related to microbiology, veterinary science, poultry and dairy.

Even, the incubator can be used by researchers and scientists for performing medical lab tests on viral diseases in cattle and poultry. Compared to normal metal incubator, the incubator developed by Prabhakar is made up of plastic and it costs only Rs 3,500 only. The incubator can be moved easily from one place to another.

Especially, it is useful to carry even to remote villages where poultry and dairy forms are located. Prabhakar designed incubator by using a plastic container, an electric cable, and electrical and electronic devices.

The compact incubator contains a PVC box, heater, fan and temperature controller with sensor. Speaking to The Hans India, M Prabhakar said that the incubator works with accuracy to control temperature without any minute fluctuations.

The device can be used to grow and maintain microbiological cultures. “Incubators are essential for lot of experimental work in cell biology, microbiology and molecular biology. It costs very less. Efforts are on to design some more similar instruments which can be useful for teaching, research and extension,” he added.
