Amaravati: The State government has decided to revoke its earlier orders of converting all the Telugu medium schools into English medium schools in municipal schools. The government through GO No 421 dated December 5 said that the Telugu medium sections will continue parallel to the English medium from first standard to 10th standard.

The government maintained that keeping the difficulties of students in mind, it decided to continue the Telugu medium sections parallel to English medium sections from 1st to 10th class in all the municipal schools in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, the government through GO No 14 dated January 2, 2017 issued orders to convert all the existing Telugu medium municipal schools into English medium schools from 1st standard to 10th class irrespective of students’ strength as well as teachers’ strength with immediate effect.

The government revoked the earlier orders on conversion as it realised that it would not fit for the existing education system in the state and objections came from all quarters including students, parents and MLAs and MLCs.

R Karikal Valaven, Principal Secretary, department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, stated in his orders that, “It has been found out that there has been overwhelming support for the English medium sections from classes I to V. But in high schools, there seem to be a demand for continuing Telugu medium as parallel sections as some students find it difficult to immediately switch over to English medium.”
