Kurnool: Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy instructed District Collector S Satyanarayana and engineers of the Irrigation department to prepare proposals for filling up 106 ponds with the water of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS). The Minister convened an emergency meeting with the officials of the Engineering and Revenue departments at State Guest House here on Tuesday.

Addressing the meeting, Krishnamurthy directed the officials to prepare proposals for filling 67 ponds with the HNSS water in a week’s time. He instructed the officials to submit the proposals to Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, who is expected to visit Kurnool next week.

About 15,000 acres will come under cultivation and drinking water can be supplied to 100 villages once ponds are filled with the HNSS water, the Minister said and added that Rs 300 crore is needed for filling up 67 ponds in the first phase. Krishnamurthy further said that if all the works are completed in time then 1.5 tmcft water could be diverted to all the ponds through the HNSS Canal.

He mentioned Muchumarri and Malyala schemes are the lifeline to Kurnool district. He ordered the Revenue officials to give priority for land acquisition and peg marking. District Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jetty, Joint Collector V Prasanna Venkatesh, APSIDC Chairman KE Prabhakar, Irrigation department’s Superintending Engineer Ramakrishna Murthy, HNSS Superintending Engineer Nagaraju, RDOs, Executive Engineers, Deputy Engineers and other officials participated in the meeting.
