Atmakur (Kurnool): District Collector S Satyanarayana and Srisailam MLA Budda Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday inspected the Siddhapuram tank, the largest irrigation tank in Kurnool district.

They inspected pumping of two tmcft from Veligodu reservoir through the Lift-Irrigation (LI) and also the stage-1 and stage-2 motors of the LI scheme. They started two control rooms one each at stage-1 and stage-2 pumping facilities and also 33/11 kv electric sub-stations.

Irrigation Chief Engineer Narayana Reddy explained the ongoing LI works to the Collector and MLA. Later, they performed puja to heavy duty power transports as per the tradition.

“Trial run would be completed within 10 days. Later, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the LI scheme,” they said. The officials advised farmers to raise dry crops in the current rabi season and told them that they would be able to raise paddy once the LI scheme goes on stream.

Budda Rajasekhara Reddy became emotional and said that he was fortunate to have the LI scheme, a 30-year-long dream project of his father and former Minister Budda Vengal Reddy, nearing completion during his regime. The MLA said that at least 23,000 acres in 12 villages in Alamuru mandal will become fertile because of the LI scheme.
