Visakhapatnam: Renowned lawyer Prashant Bhushan wrote a letter to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu over tampering with the land records by the revenue officer/tahsildar in collusion with local political leaders for dispossessing land of the local tribe, ‘Gadaba,’ at Chatterjipuram hamlet in Rolugunta mandal in Visakhapatnam district.

In his complaint to the Chief Minister, Prashant Bhushan pointed out that local revenue officer/tahsildar is in cahoots with local politician to abstain from including the names of local tribes in revenue records in Column 13 of No 3 Adangal.

“Such an attempt was made by one Meesala Subbanna (local political leader having contested the Assembly elections on Congress party ticket earlier) by filing a civil suit against the said tribe seeking injunction in regard to the occupation of land bearing Survey number 131 located at MK Patanam revenue village,” was stated in the letter.

He mentioned that a fact-finding committee comprising social activists visited Chatterjipuram hamlet on October 6 this year and met many farmers/ tribals cultivating the land for the past several years.

“The committee found that the said tribe is in peaceful possession of the land in question and its members have been living there for more than 50 years and also made investments into the land for agriculture, digging borewells, constructing dwellings and getting electricity connections,” the letter said.

He requested the Chief Minister to look into the matter and order the authority concerned to ensure that the local tribe (who are in the original inhabitant of the land in dispute) are not dispossessed of their land illegally and the revenue records are properly maintained in their names. He also urged the Chief Minister to take action against the private individuals for allegedly forging revenue records.
