Eluru: West Godavari District Principal Sessions Judge Gandham Sunita said that 1,213 cases were settled in National Lok Adalat conducted in various courts in the district on Saturday.

She said that the National Lok Adalat was conducted in Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Tanuku, Kovvuru, Narsapuram, Bhimavaram, Chintalapudi, Palacol, Jangareddigudem, Nidadavole and Bhimadole court complexes. In all these courts, about 127 motor vehicle accident claims were settled and awarded Rs 4,16,20,000 as compensation.

Earlier in Eluru District Court Complex, District Principal Sessions Judge Gandham Sunita conducted the Lok Adalat meeting. Speaking on the occasion, she said that Lok Adalat is the better way to settle the cases pending in the courts in an amicable way. The clients may approach the Lok Adalat to settle their cases which are eligible for the hearing in Lok Adalat. She said that in West Godavari district about 43,000 cases are pending and out of which 22,522 cases can be settled through deliberations.

She said 1,200 cases would be taken up on Lok Adalat benches in the district. So far three Lok Adalats were conducted in the district and 5,000 pending cases were settled. Another 2,000 cases were settled through discussions in Lok Adalat, he stated.

District Legal Services Authority secretary Sailaja, Judges G Gopi, S Sridevi, L Sridhar, Nanduri Reddy Prasanna, Ramaraju Venkateswara Sarma, Eluru Bar Association President Abbineni Vijaya Kumar, police, excise, judiciary, bank officers, insurance companies officials participated. In Narsapur, Judge K Narasimha Murthy conducted the Lok Adalat.
