Vijayawada: Contract employees, working for 108 Emergency Ambulance Services, including drivers and emergency medical technicians staged a dharna here on Friday, demanding that the government hike their salaries by 50 percent, continue services of drivers and emergency medical technicians, and constitute state level grievance committees with the government officials and representatives of the union immediately. They raised slogans against the government for delay in accepting their long pending demands.

Addressing the gathering, the 108 Contract Employees Union honorary president AV Nageswara Rao said that though they had been working for the last 12 years in two shifts the government was paying salary of Rs 11,500 per month. He said due to less salaries, they were not in a position to feed their family members.

He said that over 2,000 contract employees had been working in 432 ambulances in 661 mandals in the state. 108 Contract Employees Union leaders B Kiran Kumar, B Nagaraju, N Mahesh, M Srinivas were among those participated.
